Southern Ozaukee Fire Department
The Southern Ozaukee Fire Department provides fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of the Village of Thiensville and the City of Mequon. It is responsible for the plan review of new construction and inspection of all commercial, industrial and multi-family residences. The department also provides fire safety education throughout the community.
In addition to responding to fire and emergency incidents throughout the year, the department also provides various services to the community including:
- Fire Inspections
- Sprinkler Installation Plan Inspections
- Fire Alarm System Inspections
- Burn Permits
- Public Education
- Car seat installation
- CPR Training
For non-emergencies and/or administration, contact our office at (262) 242-2530 which is staffed Monday-Thursday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. Call this number if you would like information on obtaining or renewing burn permits, to report a burning complaint, all fire inspection related inquiries, to schedule a birthday party and/or tour, CPR training inquiries, or general fire-related questions. If your call requires (non-emergency) in-person contact during times other than noted above, please call (262) 242-2530 and press “1” for assistance. Your call will be redirected to the police department.

On January 1, 2023, the City of Mequon and the Village of Thiensville Fire Departments officially merged into the Southern Ozaukee Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (SOFD). Each of the Fire Departments have a long history and tradition of serving their communities and have nearly 250 years of combined service. The Departments will combine their equipment and staff members into one organization. The new Fire Department will be a combination of career staff and Paid-on-Call members to provide immediate response to emergency medical calls, fire calls, vehicle accidents and other situations requiring emergency assistance. The Southern Ozaukee Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department will continue to operate out of Station 1 located at 11300 N. Buntrock Avenue in Mequon, Station 2 located at 11800 N. Port Washington Road in Mequon and Station 3 located at 250 Elm Street in Thiensville.
