All businesses along North Main Street in downtown Thiensville remain open and fully accessible to motorists as construction work gets underway on nearby Cedarburg Road in Mequon.
Work on the city of Mequon project – expected to continue until November – got underway in mid-July.
A posted detour for the project routes northbound traffic on Thiensville’s Main Street, west onto Freistadt Road to Wauwatosa Road. The northbound detour continues to Pioneer Road, where the detour proceeds east back to Cedarburg Road/Washington Avenue.
The construction zone has been posted for “no thru-traffic.” The initial work is being conducted where the railroad tracks cross Cedarburg Road near Bonniwell Road.
Mequon’s work on Cedarburg Road from the north edge of Thiensville to Mequon’s northern boundary near Pioneer Road involves milling, removing and replacing the road surface. Other repairs to the pavement will be made after the top 3.5-inch layer is removed.
After the new asphalt has had an opportunity to cure, the shoulders of the road will be covered with crushed gravel to protect the edge of the new pavement.
Other work taking place as part of the project includes re-laying or replacing culverts as needed, drainage and ditch work and tree trimming.
